Inuit Child First Program

The City of Iqaluit is excited to announce a new initiative aimed at supporting Inuit families with children by addressing food insecurity in our community.

About the Program

The City of Iqaluit is excited to announce a new initiative aimed at supporting Inuit families with children by addressing food security in our community. This program is made possible through funding from the Inuit Child’s First Initiative, in partnership with Indigenous Kids Network of Canada, will provide direct financial support to help families access nutritious and affordable food in Nunavut.

Eligible Inuit families will receive $500 per month for food for each child aged 18 and under, with an additional $250 for children aged one day to four years for infant formula and diapering supplies.

Inuit children living in Iqaluit aged 18 and under is eligible for $500 per month.

Diaper Program

Inuit children living in Iqaluit aged 4 and under is eligible for $250 per month.

FAQ

How Long is the Program Active?

The funding starts in November 2024 and ends March 2025.

Stores participating in the program are Arctic Ventures Co-op, Bayside Foods, D.J. Specialties, Northern Shopper and NorthMart.             

Select Register Now to complete an online registration form. The child’s or parent’s NTI number is required to be submitted along with the child’s health card or birth certificate.

Select Change Store Account to change what store you would like to purchase from. This change will be applied to the next month if submitted before the 17th of the previous month.

Yes, the monthly cut-off date is the 17th of each month. If you register after this date, funds will be provided in the following month.

 

The funds will be available to use at the selected store, 5 business days after the complete registration was submitted.
